I just finished Neal Stephenson’s Anathem and oh my GOD

it was so GOOD!

Much like Cryptonomicon it is an incredible dense piece of fiction and it really is a slog to get through basically the first third of the novel. It spends that slog laying some fantastic groundwork, though, and once you really get into it is just utterly fantastic and great, and it gets so, so much more epic and crazy than you expect it to.

It’s set in this way way post-apocalyptic world (like, nuclear armageddon 3500 years ago) and they’ve basically fully rebuilt society, and there’re these monastic orders of scientist monks

and basically it’s fantastic.

An excellent book. Just… phenomenal. Neal Stephenson is quickly becoming my favourite author. (and he’s just a cool dude in general have you guys seen the CLANG stuff oh man! so cool)
